Part-time professors with researchers’ profile: between opportunities and restrictions
Abstract
The text analyzes the situation of part-time teachers (PTP) in higher education institutions and public universities in Mexico. The notion of academic regime is developed based on a specific theoretical approach, which encompasses the policy environment in which the teacher in question interacts and adapts based on the presentation of opportunities and restrictions linked to the construction of his or her academic career. In addition, an approach to the observed effects of these dynamics is added but limited to the case of the PTP who is professionally involved in the research. Arguments related to a series of consequences identified with respect to academic freedom are also presented. At the end, the main conclusions, reflections, and suggestions are to be taken into account on the subject.
