Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the digital society and their contribution to promoting sustainable development from a post humanist perspective. A review
Abstract
Currently, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are undergoing rapid changes due to technological evolution, altering the way people communicate, work, and relate. In this digital environment, HEIs play a crucial role in shaping individuals capable of adapting and seizing the opportunities of this new era. Furthermore, they have a central role in promoting sustainable development. It is necessary to analyze how HEIs function in the digital society and how they contribute to a culture of sustainability and social responsibility from a posthumanist perspective. This work aims to present the main trends of HEIs' function in the digital society and their contribution to promoting sustainable development from a posthumanist standpoint, for which a literature review was conducted. As a result of the review, it is found that from a posthumanist perspective, HEIs have a pivotal role in promoting sustainable development, considering not only human well-being but also the rights of other non-human species and entities. Furthermore, HEIs can lead research and education on environmentally friendly practices and inclusion. By embracing this inclusive perspective, HEIs can become essential agents in building a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
