Abstract

The paper explores, from an analytical and critical perspective, the contribution of Argentine public universities to the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) related to gender equality and all women’s and girls’ empowerment, and to the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against them. In order to do it, the paper analyses the process of incorporation of women into higher education in Argentina and the obstacles they have to endure to obtain the recognition of their rights; as well as the early development of the feminist ideas in the country and their connection to the university’s life. To achieve this SDG in the universities, it was necessary the impulse provided by a bottom-up movement since 2015, composed by the hard work of feminist and women’s movements. However, these processes and contributions were not sufficiently acknowledged by the nation state in the implementation of public policies for this sector during the time convered by this paper.
