Virtual international mobility as an inclusion strategy: Case of the Latin American Academic Exchange Program 2018-2022

Keywords: Virtualization; internationalization; higher education; international mobility

Abstract

The internationalization of Higher Education institutions and teaching in virtual environments are not new processes, but they have acquired other characteristics in recent decades due to systemic changes. The coupling of both has resulted in a programmatic strategy such as the Latin American Academic Exchange Program (PILA), whose analysis will be carried out in the course of the text. Therefore, the objective is to evaluate the conditions generated through the PILA in its virtual version to broaden the material base of the internationalization process. To this end, the statistics of the PILA program in the period 2018-2022 have been taken as a basis, which will be reviewed under three dimensions of analysis, namely: the interference that government policies have had, the role that institutions have fulfilled, and the adherence of the students to the proposal.
