Socio-technical studies of information sciences in South America from the perspective of free knowledge
Abstract
Presented here are partial results of the ongoing investigation "Social Studies of Science and Technology of Information and Communication for Sustainable Human and Multicultural Development in South America”. 2 As part of the objectives of this research social studies in the field of the know-how of information science have been made, in the Latindex, RedALyC and SciELO open access regional catalogs of journals, including South American countries, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico. The first 12 journals were selected (2 in Argentina, Brazil 4, 1 Colombian, 1 Peruvian, 1 and 3 Mexican Cuban, with a total of 2345 records) recorded in a free style of dissemination of open knowledge, which have also been easy to access and download from the beginning of the investigation in 2002. The question of What are the characteristics of open access publications in free Information Science in South America?, is answered online exploring the sociohistorical dimension of free knowledge and systematization of artisanal databases, through some bibliometric indicators from the 2000-2010 editions of the aforementioned journals. Part of the work as oriented to carrying out a comparative analysis between the processes of South America, Caribbean and Mexico, which enriches the knowledge of similarities and differences between nations in the region agffected by socioeconomic national policies opposed to free knowledge.
