Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education: A Bibliometric Analysis
Abstract
The progress of information and communication technologies (ICT) has developed artificial intelligence tools, these permeate different dimensions of people’s lives. Higher education is no stranger to this process of technological development, therefore, the present study aims to analyze the scientific publications produced around the application of artificial intelligence in higher education. As a methodology, a search equation for articles published in the period 2012-2022 was used, using the keywords "artificial intelligence" and "higher education". This equation was applied in the Scopus database, in which 288 publications were obtained, to which bibliometric indicators were applied for the analysis of publications history, citations, countries, publication sources, sponsors and keywords, with the VOSviewer software help. The results of this study showed a growth in publications on the subject, the countries with the highest production are China and the United States and the source with the largest number of publications is Sustainability Switzerland. The study provided a broad overview of the existing publications on the subject. When comparing the results, there is evidence of a growing use of AI tools in higher education focused on the teaching and learning process between teachers and students.
