ChatGPT in higher education: exploring its potentials and limitations
Abstract
This work presents a critical analysis of the use of ChatGPT in Higher Education, considering its possible capabilities, limitations, and associated biases. Among the identified potentialities are its ability to provide research assistance, serve as a virtual tutor, and generate educational content. These opportunities can improve self-directed learning and student experience when facing a task, streamline certain tasks of teaching work, and provide access to a wide information base. However, limitations, biases, and errors have been found that can lead to significant ethical and social implications. This highlights the importance of human presence carrying out a critical look at the information provided by the tool to ensure equity, impartiality when interacting with these tools, and promote digital literacy that allows researchers, teachers, and students to work with Artificial Intelligence.
