This interesting issue of our journal ESS includes articles that deal with the changes that have taken place in the publishing industries with the incorporation of Google Books, technological mediations in university educational practices. To topics of referential significance such as the origin, consolidation, expansion and implications of Open Access in Latin America and the Caribbean and the product of a serious process of research and reflection, it addresses the role of Open Access in the emergence and consolidation of refereed journals in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as an interesting discussion about Open Access and information.
