Abstract
This issue of the journal Educación Superior y Sociedad-ESS, whose central theme focuses on analyzing the contributions of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean-LAC to the Sustainable Development Goals-SDGs, is published at a remarkable moment in human history. The devastating COVID-19 pandemic that has affected the entire planet and, to date, claimed the lives of almost 1.5 million people, represents one of the saddest humanitarian crises to have ravaged humanity since the 20th century. The disease, which has spread rapidly throughout the world, has had economic, social, and health impacts; it has exposed the weaknesses of major world powers and exacerbated the vulnerability of millions of people in different parts of the world.
