Abstract
A los desafíos que los sistemas de educación superior de América Latina comparten con la mayoría de los sistemas de educación superior del mundo, debe sumarse también el reto que los primeros tienen de dar respuestas adecuadas a las necesidades de desarrollo social que están enfrentando las grandes mayorías desatendidas de esa región. Especialmente queremos referirnos a uno de los más serios desequilibrios sociales y educativos que tiene América Latina, el cual debe ser enfrentado en la presente década por todos los países de la región.
