Abstract

La Asociación de Universidades e Institutos de Investigación del Caribe (UNICA) es una organización independiente y voluntaria que se fundó en 1967 para fo­mentar la cooperación entre las instituciones y centros de educación superior en la región del Caribe. La Asociación define al Caribe como el área geográfica que comprende las islas de las Antillas y las zonas costeras de los países que rodean el Mar Caribe y el Golfo de México, incluidas América Central y la región norte de América del Sur y las Guayanas, reconociendo así las fuerzas transna­cionales, translinguales y transculturales de la región.

Además de su carácter transversal, la fuerza de la Asociación radica en el hecho de que todos sus miembros ejecutivos y afiliados son los funcionarios, rectores y presidentes de mayor jerarquía de instituciones de educación superior en la región del Gran Caribe, por lo que la toma de decisiones es rápida y efectiva. Estos funcionarios están totalmente comprometidos a resaltar la importancia del sector terciario como elemento sensible a las necesidades de la sociedad y capaz de hacer contribuciones coherentes y significativas a las áreas prioritarias de desarrollo sostenible a nivel nacional, regional y global, incluyendo el medio ambiente, la energía, la tecnología y la innovación.

Author Biography

Moise Myriam , Université des Antilles, Pole Martinique

Myriam Moïse is an Associate Professor of English at Université des Antilles in Martinique, and is currently serving as Secretary-General of Universities Caribbean, the Association of Caribbean Universities and Research Institutes (formerly UNICA). A permanent researcher at the Caribbean Social Sciences Research Unit (LC2S/CNRS-UMR 8053), she holds a Doctorate in Anglophone Studies from Uni­versité de la Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris, and a PhD in Literatures in English from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad. Her research fields include Postcolonial Studies, Gender Studies and Discourse Analysis, with a special focus on the literary and artistic productions by women of African Caribbean descent. She has pu­blished a number of book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed scholarly journals, such as Commonwealth Essays and Studies, PoCo Pages, Vertigo and Routledge Atlantic Studies. She is the co-editor of a scholarly volume entitled “Border Transgression and Reconfiguration of Caribbean Spaces”, Moïse, M. & F. Réno (Eds), Palgrave Macmillan, forthcoming 2019. Dr Moïse is very committed to developing research and educatio­nal projects in the Caribbean region and works as a French advi­sor for the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC). She is currently engaged in various research activities in the Caribbean and the Americas, including a Partner University Fund Project between Université des Antilles and Louisiana State University on the repre­sentation of slavery by contemporary artists and writers across the French Caribbean and Louisiana..
