Focus and scope
The Educación Superior y Sociedad ESS (Higher Education and Society) Journal is a periodical published by the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO-IESALC), based in Caracas, Venezuela. It constitutes the main means of dissemination and approach to scientific research in the Universities and Institutions of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean and in other regions. It is mainly oriented to the dissemination of research papers, theoretical studies on the field of higher education and its thematic trends.
In its historical journey since 1990, the ESS journal is a biannual, peer-reviewed and indexed publication that internationally disseminates the most relevant advances in research and innovation in the field of higher education.
ESS is aimed at the academic community of the region and the world. To researchers in the social sciences, to undergraduate and postgraduate university students from the region and the world, to the general public interested in topics of reflection and analysis on higher education.

ESS is a journal in social sciences, specialized in topics related to higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean and the world. It proposes to address research topics with epistemic and methodological results to encourage a continental discussion, emphasizing:

Work modality
ESS works under the thematic dossier modality.
Each of the journal´s issues is made up of a selection of articles, received through public calls on a specific topic, on a regular basis. The coordination of the production of the same is carried out by one or several specialists of recognized prestige in the corresponding thematic area who will act as Editor or Guest Editors (s).
The ESS also publishes special numbers made up of articles received in the Editorial Team through free calls; they are selected, as are the regular ones, after being submitted to a strict evaluation system according to international standards.
