Abstract

Due to their role as knowledge generators, higher education institutions play a key role on the implementation of the SDG agenda. For accomplishing this role, every institution has to assess their contribution in order to have a diagnosis from they can analyse how to contribute effectively. Seeking this objective, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile mapped its contribution to the SDGs and their specific targets through its research. The methodology implemented consisted in the revision of every paper published during the year 2017 on the University. A small group of people was in charge of this task. This process allowed to have the first scientific contribution characterization of the University to the SDGs. Main contributions are on SDGs “Good health and wellbeing” (704 articles) and “Sustainable cities and communities” (134). When analysing contribution to targets, biggest contributions are to target 3.4 related with reducing premature mortality (351) and to target 3.B related with research and development of vaccines and medicines (106). Results show where research efforts for sustainable development focus from a new perspective, and constitute an interesting asset for promoting inter and transdisciplinary work among scholars.
